Ambassador’s Message

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 5th edition of Poland SHIOK Festival.

It was five years ago that we launched the first edition of Polish Festival in Singapore. Poland SHIOK, originally aimed at showcasing Polish food, culinary traditions and culture, has transformed over years into an all-encompassing platform that presents Poland’s best – also in terms of creativity, technology or business opportunities. This year’s festival agenda continue to tap the power of digital though we are glad to offer many physical happenings such as film screenings and culinary promotions.

As year 2021 marks the centennial of the birth of Stanisław Lem, one of Poland’s most respected thinkers and science fiction writers who foresaw the possibilities of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and genetic engineering, this year’s edition of PolandSHIOK will highlight innovation and creativity. The series of webinars cover opportunities in e-commerce and video gaming industries, as well as address the role of futuristic dreamers and thinkers in development of new technologies in the world of today – for the one of tomorrow. Fans of video games will be able to embark on some extraordinary adventures with the world-wide known Polish titles.

This year’s cultural program comprises screenings of masterpieces of Krzysztof Kieślowski, as well as technology and exploration-related exhibitions. Thanks to virtual concerts and digital tours which follow the footsteps of the famous composer Fryderyk Chopin participants will get in the mood for the renowned International Chopin Piano Competition to be held in Warsaw this autumn. Majestic compositions of another musical genius – late master Krzysztof Penderecki will also be at the core of the cultural experience.

Continuing PolandSHIOK traditions, we have secured the presence of culinary promotions, featuring Polish food in local restaurants. This year’s menu called ‘From Polish farm to Singaporean table’ will present a medley of Polish and Asian tastes crafted by Singaporean chefs specially for the local palate.
